Hi there! This is Gela! To begin with, I actually have a deep interest in emergency care and community health. I have always been passionate about serving others, especially during times of crisis, which is why I find the field of disaster nursing both meaningful and essential to my future practice.

My main motivation as a student nurse for enrolling in the course Disaster Nursing is to learn the basic information and practical competencies required to respond adequately to emergencies and mass casualty incidents. I wish to know the roles and responsibilities of nurses during all stages of disaster management such as preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.

I anticipate the course to provide me with the skills to evaluate risk, engage in disaster planning, and utilize critical thinking under stressful situations. I also plan to attain proficiency in triage techniques, first aid, psychosocial support, and coordination with interprofessional teams. Moreover, I look forward to gaining knowledge on local and international disaster procedures, such as how to maintain ethical and culturally sensitive practice during times of crisis.

Overall, I look forward to becoming more resilient, adaptable, and prepared to serve as a compassionate and efficient nurse in times of disaster.
