My interest in this critical field was significantly deepened during a recent community duty assignment in a disaster-stricken area. Witnessing the aftermath firsthand underscored the vital importance of mastering every aspect of disaster response—from community-level preparedness and rapid assessment to effective intervention, resource allocation, and post-disaster recovery.
