Good day, all! I am Patricia Joy Antonette P. Ortiz, and you can call me Pat. I am an incoming 4th year BSN student, and I have been involved in several clinical duties in both the hospital and the community. In relation to our coursework, our PHN duties have been a way in allowing us to care and advocate for people in depressed communities, especially in foreseeable crises.
Through this course, I am excited to learn more about the knowledge, skills and attitude that I can apply in my care. While disasters may be predicted, we never know when they can truly strike, which makes it essential for us to be prepared for them. I hope to learn more on what to do as a nurse when they happen, how to triage the patients, as well as give the best care for them as possible. Aside from the physical context, I also hope to be able to learn more about dealing with patients' and families' emotions, as these disasters may truly induce a myriad of feelings like sadness, anxiety and fear.
With this, I aim to become a public health nurse who knows how to prepare and respond to disasters effectively, and advocate and care for the people that may be affected. I also hope to become an efficient nurse educator, who can teach and help the public, especially those in disaster-prone areas like my hometown, to prepare for disasters and have the knowledge and skills to respond to them.
