Based on the self-assessment questionnaire and the provided scoring guide, Humanism as a teaching philosophy is my result. According to the guide, humanist educators consider the human potential for growth and how to become the best a person can be. A person can learn naturally and is inherently good and can thrive in an encouraging and empowering environment. As a teaching philosophy specifically in clinical teaching, humanism gives emphasis on the importance of human values and the personal growth of the learners. The focus of this teaching philosophy is not only in the development of clinical skills but of the affective domain which includes compassion, communication and even ethical integrity in shaping the future professional nurses.

Humanism in clinical teaching, focuses on a learner-centered approach which encourages autonomy and promotes active learning. Another emphasis is on respect and empathy where there should be genuine concern for the learners and the development of empathy in terms of clinical interactions are encouraged. A positive practice and supportive learning environment which fosters a safe and inclusive environment that provide learning opportunities and constructive feedback.

With this in mind, I believe that Humanistic Clinical Teaching is aligned in my way of teaching which is geared towards the enhancement of patient outcomes, reduction of burnout in learners by providing a supportive environment, promotion of ethical decision-making and professionalism and the development of communication and collaboration.
