Personal Experience on Authorship

My personal experience on authorship is more of "growing up" in the hospital with the idea that you have a bigger chance of being published if you attach the name of a senior consultant to your paper so it will go over better with the publication. When it was discussed in my presence, it was not really directed at myself or my research. Looking back while I did not really perceive any malicious intent at the time, I felt that it was unsettling. Years later, when I was actually going to do research, I had the privilege of working with consultants who were actually engaged and worked WITH me throughout the project, so I was happy and proud to share co-authorship with them. I understand that that wasn't the case with my "siblings" in training, so it was not comfortable watching them go through what they did.
