I personally think that rather than choosing MCN, MCN was the one that chose me. MCN specialty was one area back in college that I remembered dreading the clinical rotation. I firmly believed that this was my weakest subject as a nursing student. When I graduated and tried to have an experience as a reviewer in a review center, I was assigned MCN by chance and I had no choice but to put an extra effort to study it once more. When I applied in PGH, I was asked as to what area I don't want to be assigned in, and I remembered answering that any area would do except for OB and Pedia. I was then assigned in OB-GYN for 4 years, assigned in Pedia for the duration of the pandemic and back again to OB-GYN until present. I think it is safe to say that I cannot escape MCN but throughout the years I grew to appreciate and love the field and that there is definitely joy in taking care of both the mother and child
