1. Food changes in consistency and form as it moves through the digestive system: it is chewed and mixed with saliva in the mouth, turned into a semi-liquid, called chyme, in the stomach through acids and enzymes, broken into smaller molecules in the small intestine, and solidified into feces in the large intestine as water is absorbed.

2.Nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine after being broken down into simple units such as amino acids, glucose, fatty acids. These nutrients pass through the intestinal walls into the bloodstream or lymphatic system and are transported to cells for energy, growth, and repair. Some vitamins are also absorbed in the large intestine.
