a. Ano-ano ang mga lapit (approach) sa konserbasyon ng kamanahang kultural?

There are 3 main approaches mentioned in the paper to conserve cultural heritage.
(1) Adaptive re-use which by definition of RA 10066 is the utilization of buildings other than its intended or original purpose. Meaning these buildings can be modified into commercial spaces or anything with present value as it aims to conserve the site without destroying its engineering integrity and design authenticity.

(2) The Old-and-new approach is where new infrastructures can be built around or together with the old and conserved buildings, but still taking into consideration its relationship with them.

(3) Finally Urban Regeneration, this consists of 4 classifications; reconstruction, revitalization, renewal, and redevelopment.

  • Urban reconstruction is a comprehensive action plan that addresses the decline of cultural heritage value in urban areas.

  • Urban revitalization comprises physical restoration of an area that also solves urban problems in the long run.

  • Urban renewal on the other hand addresses the deterioration of cultural heritage sites that have been revitalized, yet only focuses on present matters.

  • Lastly, urban redevelopment centers on making an area economically viable to keep up with changing business environments and trends.

b. Sa tingin mo ba magagamit (applicable) ang Culture-Oriented Economic Development ni Van der Borg at Russo (2005) sa mga bansang bahagi ng Global South?

Yes, it is applicable. Every nation and country just like the Philippines is rich in culture. All that’s left to do is to utilize these diverse traditions and natural resources properly for sustainable economic growth. One of the key elements of COED is that we all need to recognize the importance of our own culture and act upon it. This includes investments and continued cooperation with the government and other cultural agencies to develop cultural sites, landmarks, museums, and others. This will then result in increased tourism which provides work, business opportunities, and economic growth in general. All of which will return to the people as it enhances national identity and financial resilience.
