1. SITES OF INJECTION: Vastus Lateralis Muscle (Intramuscularly in the anterolateral thigh)

Origin: Greater trochanter and lateral lip of the linea aspera of the femur

Insertion:  Quadriceps tendon into the patella, and then indirectly through the patellar ligament to the tibial tuberosity

Action: Leg extension at the knee joint

How to locate? (1) Position the baby in the supine position. (2) Find the Anterolateral thigh. It is located on the outer part of the thigh. (3) Injection site. It is administered at the middle third of the anterolateral aspect of the thigh which is the safest for babies under 1 years of age.

2. SITES OF INJECTION: Deltoid Muscle of the upper arm

Origin: Lateral third of the clavicle, acromion process of the scapula, and spine of the scapula.

Insertion:  Deltoid Tuberosity of the humerus

Action: Flex and medially rotate the arm, Abduct the arm, and extend and laterally rotate the arm.

How to locate? (1)Have the patient stand or sit with a relaxed arm on the side. (2) locate the acromion process of the scapula, measure about 2-3 finger widths, and it should be administered into the thickest or part of the muscle. (3) Find the injection site or the deltoid muscle found on the lateral side of the upper arm.
