1. Injection Site: Anterolateral thigh

Target Muscle: Vastus Lateralis

Origin: Great trochanter and lateral lip of the linea aspera of femur

Insertion: Tibital tuberosity via the patellar ligament

Action: Extends the knee join

Locating:

  • Relax the child's leg
  • Divide the anterolateral thigh into thirds. Inject in the middle third of the anterolateral aspect of the thigh.

2. Injection Site: Deltoid muscle

Origin: Lateral third of the clavicle, aromion, and spine of the scapula

Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus

Action: Flexion and internal rotation of the shoulder; adbuction of the shoulder; extension and external rotation of the shoulder

Locating the Injection Site:

  • Expose upper arm
  • Palpat acromion process
  • Measure approx. 1-2 inches below the acromion.
  • It should be administered into the middle part of the deltoid muscle
