Site of Injection: Anterior and lateral part of the thigh (Targeted Muscle: Vastus Lateralis)
Origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of the femur
Insertion: Patella via the quadriceps tendon and tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament
Action: Extends the knee joint
How to locate: Place the infant in a supine position. Locate the site by measuring one-third of the distance between the hip and the knee along the anterolateral aspect of the thigh.

Site of Injection: Deltoid muscle in the upper arm (Targeted Muscle: Deltoid)
Origin: Lateral part of the clavicle, acromion process, and spine of the scapula
Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
Action: Abducts, flexes, and extends the arm at the shoulder joint
How to locate: Ask the patient to relax the arm at their side. The injection site is 2–3 finger-widths below the acromion process on the outer part of the upper arm.
