  1. first patient is a 2-month old well female infant
    • The site of the injection is in the anterolateral thigh
    • The targeted muscle is the Vastus Lateralis
      • Origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of the femur
      • Insertion: Patella and tibial tuberosity
      • Action: Extension of the knee joint and forward movement of the leg
    • In order to locate the Vastus Lateralis, 
      • Place a hand on top of the baby’s thigh and the other on the upper part of the knee, then the vastus lateralis will be the part in between the two hands.
  2. 65-year-old grandfather
    • The preferred site for this is the Deltoid muscle
      • Origin: the clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
      • Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
      • Action: Abduction of the arm
    • In order to locate the Deltoid Muscle,
      • Find the acromion process at the top part of the arm, beneath the fingers pressing on the acromion, place another two fingers beneath. Place a hand just above the axillary and below the two fingers, create an inverted triangle with the thumb and other fingers, and at the middle of the triangle will be the site of injection.
