  1. PCV and Penta Vaccinations for an infant
    Site of Injection: Anterolateral thigh
    Muscle Targeted: Vastus lateralis
    Origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur
    Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament.
    Action: Extends the leg at knee joint
    How do you locate this area? Place one hand just below the greater trochanter of femur and the other hand just above the lateral femoral condyle. The space between your hands represents the middle third of the thigh. The outer portion within this section is the anterolateral aspect of the thigh.

  2. Influenza vaccine
    Site of injection: Upper Arm
    Muscle Targeted: Deltoid
    Origin: Acromial extremity of clavicle (anterior fibers), acromion of scapula (lateral fibers), and spine of scapula (posterior fibers)
    Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
    Action: Lateral fibers abduct arm at shoulder joint; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm at shoulder joint; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm at shoulder joint
    How do you locate this area? In the central and thickest portion of the deltoid muscle — above the level of the armpit and approximately 2–3 fingerbreadths (~2") below the acromion process
