    3. Action: Depresses the mandible and lower lip, tenses the skin of the neck

  2. Mentalis

    1. Origin: Mandible near the incisor teeth

    2. Insertion: Skin of the chin

    3. Action: Elevates and protrudes the lower lip, creating a pout

  3. Orbicularis oris

    1. Origin: Maxilla and mandible,

    2. Insertion: Skin and mucous membrane of the lips

    3. Action: Closes and protrudes the lips, as in kissing or whistling.

  4. Corrugator supercilii

    1. Origin: Medial end of the superciliary arch

    2. Insertion: Skin of the eyebrow

    3. Action: Draw the eyebrow downward and medially.

  5. Orbicularis oculi

    1. Origin: Medial wall of orbit

    2. Insertion: Skin around the eyelids

    3. Action: Closes the eyelids and assists in blinking and winking

  6. Occipitofrontalis

    1. Origin: Epicranial aponeurosis

    2. Insertion: Skin superior to supraorbital margin

    3. Action: Raises the eyebrows and wrinkles the forehead (frontalis); moves the scalp backward (occipitalis).
