Affected muscles:

  1. Orbicularis oculi - closes eye

  2. Levator labii superioris - raises upper lip

  3. Zygomaticus minor - raises upper lip, exposing maxillary teeth

  4. Occipitofrontalis - draws scalp anteriorly

  5. Orbicularis oris - closes and protrudes lips

Mechanism of Muscle Weakness:

A unilateral paralysis of the muscles of facial expression due to the damage or disease of the facial (VII) nerve.

Other Symptoms:

  1. Drooling

  2. Cannot wrinkle forehead, close the eye (left), or pucker lips

  3. Difficulty in swallowing
