The traits that I look for in a leader of an academic institution is someone who embraces progressive thinking and excels in effective communication with their constituents. A leader unafraid to challenge norms, employing innovative strategies to foster the growth of their community. It is crucial that the leader actively listens to and acts upon the needs of their people, even if it means challenging the status quo. Importantly, this leader must promote true inclusivity by being attentive to the voices of the minority. Reflecting on the concerns raised by my peers in the lower batches during our consultation, I have realized that it is not only necessary for a leader to listen, but also they must be genuine in working on and addressing these concerns. Timely actions demonstrate a leader’s commitment to their community in ensuring their well-being.
