1. Mechanical Digestion occurs in the mouth and the bfood breaks down through chewing with the help of the saliva. Peristalsis then pushes the food down to the stomach through the esophagus. Chemical digestion then takes place with the help of the digestive juices which breaks down the food even further which forms chyme. As the food travels to the small intestines, enzymes break the food even further. Water and nutrients are being absorbed as well which solidifies the chyme. The undigested chyme then exits the body in the form of feces.

2. As digested food enters the small intestine, the digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas and bile produced from the liver further break down the food for easier absorption. The lining in the small intestine which are filled with villi and microvilli increase the surface area for absorption and absorbs the nutrients. The absorbed nutrients then enter the bloodstream which are then directed to the cells in the body.
