  1. How does the food change in consistency and form?

The food we eat changes in consistency and form from the moment we ingest it by mastication, breaking it to smaller pieces, as well as moistened by saliva, allowing amylase to digest starches and fats; it now becomes a bolus. As it travels along the way and reaches the stomach, it is mixed with gastric juices, which is now converted to chyme. Then, this chyme enters the small intestine, where it continues to break down, and its nutrients get absorbed. Afterwards, the remains travel to the large intestine, absorbing water, ions and vitamins from it, and forming it to feces.

  1. How could the body absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat?

The small intestines, specifically the jejunum and ileum, are mainly responsible for absorbing nutrients from the foods we eat. Then, after it is absorbed, it goes into the bloodstream, and the circulatory system passes on the nutrients to different parts of the body.
