The human body can develop immunities from pathogens and other harmful substances through the help of the lymphatic system and the development of immunity through two types; innate and adaptive immunity. Innate or nonspecific immunity is present through the external physical and chemical barriers of the body such as the skin and mucous membranes. Innate immunity also includes antimicrobial substances, natural killer cells, phagocytes, inflammation, and fever. Immunity through adaptive immunity is more complicated and is carried out through the presence of antigens.

These learnings can be applied in everyday life as we get to understand in a deeper sense how vaccines, antibiotics, and the like works and its importance in intaking and regularly receiving appropriate dosages of the said medication. We also get to understand how we can acquire and avoid certain sicknesses when we understand how its pathogens are spread from one host to another.
