  1. Inflammation is a response to the body experiencing trauma or injury. The affected area experiences the dilation of blood vessels in order to allow more blood flow and access of the white blood cells to the affected area. This causes the heat, while swelling is caused by the reaction of the affected area to the chemical response of the white blood cells.
  2. Innate immunity acts as the first line of defense against invading pathogens. From its name, this immune system includes physical features of the human body acquired from birth that are tasked to protect the body from harmful obects and organisms. Our cough reflex and the skin are few of many examples of the innate immune system.
