An essential component of the body's defense system against infections is antibody-mediated immunity. The immune system's B cells create specialized proteins known as antibodies in response to foreign substances like bacteria or viruses that enter the body. These antibodies bind to the infections' surface antigens, designating them for eradication by additional immune cells. By doing this, the invaders are neutralized, rendered harmless, and kept from doing more damage.

Knowing about antibody-mediated immunity in daily life can help with immunization decisions. Vaccines increase the body's ability to identify and fend off possible infections by boosting the synthesis of antibodies without inducing disease. Those who receive vaccinations against diseases such as COVID-19, MMR, influenza, etc. can develop immunity and create antibodies, which lowers their risk of becoming ill from these infections.
