In this case, the patient experiences muscle paralysis on the right side of her face and is unable to close her right eye; hence, the cranial nerve that is affected by the viral infection is the Facial Nerve (VII) which connects the brain to the muscles responsible for controlling facial expressions and movements. The seventh cranial nerve is also involved in taste sensations, which explains the patient’s decreased sense of taste and mouth dryness.
