  • The main cranial nerve that is affected by this viral infection is the Facial Nerve (CN VII). However, other cranial nerves are also affected such as:

    • Glossopharyngeal (CN IX), and Vagus (CN X) - for loss of taste

    • Glossopharyngeal (CN IX) - for dry mouth

    • Oculomotor (CN III) - for the inability to close the right eye
