Your patient recently had a viral infection and now she cannot move the muscles on the right side of her face. In addition, she is experiencing a loss of taste and dry mouth and she cannot close her right eye. Which cranial nerves have been affected by the viral infection?



CRANIAL NERVES AFFECTED:

  1. Inability to right facial muscles - Facial (VII) nerves
  2. Loss of Taste - Glossopharyngeal (IX) nerves; posterior 1/3 of tongue, Facial (VII) nerves; anterior 2/3 of tongue, and Vagus (X) nerve; epiglottis region
  3. Dry mouth Glossopharyngeal (IX) nerves, Facial (VII) nerves
  4. Inability to close right eye - Oculomotor (III) nerves and Facial (VII) nerves
