  • Her condition mostly affected the cranial nerve VII or the facial nerve, in which the nerve signals being carried regulate facial movements and expressions. Specifically, the cranial nerves affected are the following:

    • Inability to move the muscles on the right side of the face: 

      • Facial (Cranial nerve VII)

    • Loss of taste: 

      • Facial (Cranial nerve VII)

      • Glossopharyngeal (Cranial nerve IX)

      • Vagus (Cranial nerve X)

    • Dry mouth: 

      • Facial (Cranial nerve VII)

      • Glossopharyngeal (Cranial nerve IX)

    • Inability to close the right eye: 

      • Oculomotor (Cranial nerve III)

      • Facial (Cranial nerve VII)
