1. Platysma
a. origin: fascia of deltoid and pectoralis major
b. insertion: mandible, blends with muscles around angle of the mouth, skin of lower face
c. action: pouting, draws outer part of lower lip inferiorly and posteriorly
2. Mentalis
a. origin: mandible
b. insertion: skin of chin
c. action: pouting, elevates and protrudes lower lip and pulls skin of chin up
3. Orbicularis oris
a. origin: muscle fibers surrounding opening of mouth
b. insertion: skin at corner of mouth
c. action: kissing, closes and protrudes lips
4. Corrugator supercilia
a. origin: medial end of superciliary arch of frontal lobe
b. insertion: skin (above middle part) of eyebrow
c. action: frowning, draws eyebrow inferiorly and wrinkles skin of forehead vertically
5. Obicularis oculi
a. origin: medial wall of orbit
b. insertion: upper and lower eyelids, skin around margin of orbit
c. action: winking, closes eye
6. Occipitofrontalis
a. origin: epicranial aponeurosis
b. insertion: skin superior to supraorbital margin
c. action: raising eyebrows, draws scalp anteriorly and wrinkles skin of forehead horizontally
