  1. Throwing a baseball overhead 
    Biceps

  • Action: Flexion and supination (outward rotation) of the forearm
  • Innervation: C5 and C6 fibers of the musculocutaneous nerve

         Deltoids

  • Action: Arm abduction, flexion, and extension
  • Innervation: Axillary Nerve

     2. Kicking a ball

         Hamstrings

  • Action: Flexion of knee and extension of thigh to the hip
  • Innervation: Sciatic Nerve

         Hip Flexors

  • Action: Flexing hip and raising the leg
  • Innervation: Femoral Nerve
  1. Sit-ups

         Rectus Abdominis

  • Action: Compress and tense the anterior wall of the abdomen/trunk
  • Innervation: Thoracoabdominal nerves

         Internal-External Obliques

  • Action:  Flexes/rotates the trunk and depresses the ribs
  • Innervation:  Anterior rami of the thoracic spinal nerves (T7-T12)
  1. Breathing

         Diaphragm

  • Action: Contracts during inhalation to create a vacuum and obtain air; relaxes to release space and air 
  • Innervation: Phrenic nerves

         External Intercostal Muscles

  • Action:  Everts ribs during forced inspiration; expansion of lungs 
  • Innervation:  Anterior rami of spinal nerves (T1-T11)
