1. How the food changes consistency and form

As the food passes through the gastrointestinal tract, it comes across digestive juices including water, bile, enzymes, and mucus that break the food molecules down into smaller pieces and contribute to the change in consistency. When the food enters the first segment of the small intestine, it starts out in a semi-solid form, then ends as a liquid before it moves on to the large intestine.

2. How the body was able to absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat.

Most nutrient absorption occurs in the small intestine, where tiny projections called villi acts like a comb that takes a hold of essential nutrients out of the digested food that departs from the stomach. Each protrusion of the villi is composed of a meshwork of capillaries and lymphatic vessels underneath an ultra-thin layer of tissue, which enables it to absorb macro and micronutrients from the meal and send them off to the blood stream.
