  1. Briefly describe the process of inflammation in an area that has been traumatized.
  2. Choose one type of Immunity (Innate and Humoral) and explain how its mechanism protects our body.

1) In an area that has been traumatized or damaged, inflammation occurs as a nonspecific response of the body to tissue damage. This process can be divided into 3 stages: (1) vasodilation and increased permeability of blood vessels, (2) emigration of phagocytes from the blood into the interstitial fluid, and (3) tissue repair. It also manifests through symptoms such as redness, heat, swelling, pain, and loss of function.

2) One type of immunity that I would discuss is Innate Immunity. It is a type of immunity composed of physical factors, chemical factors, antimicrobial substances, natural killer cells, phagocytosis, inflammation, and fever. Physical and chemical factors like the skin and mucous membranes are the first barriers against pathogens. Antimicrobial substances are composed of interferons, which prevent virus replication. Natural killer cells and phagocytes kill pathogens or defective cells. Inflammation and fever get rid of unwanted materials and enable tissue repair.
