Answer the following questions:

  1. Briefly describe the process of inflammation in an area that has been traumatized.

When an area has been traumatized, there will be tissue injury which will be detected by the cells and will initiate an inflammatory response. There will be a release of mediators such as histamine which is a vasodilator and can increase the permeability of the blood vessels. This will increase the blood flow so more blood will reach the damaged tissue and remove the toxins in the area. It also helps in transporting the necessary antibodies in the area. After some time, there will be the presence of phagocytes in the area which will then be emigrated. Eventually, the tissue of the traumatized area will begin to regenerate.

  1. Choose one type of Immunity (Innate and Humoral) and explain how its mechanism protects our body.

Innate immunity protects us against injuries, foreign bodies, pathogens, etc through the first and second lines of defense. The first line of defense is the skin and mucous membranes of the body. It protects us by preventing and limiting the penetration of disease-carrying foreign bodies and pathogens into our bodies. The second line of defense is the internal defense which is responsible if the pathogens penetrated the first line of defense. It protects us by inhibiting the growth of certain microbes, phagocytosis, and by inflammation response.
