  1. Briefly describe the process of inflammation in an area that has been traumatized.

Immediately succeeding an injury, acute inflammation occurs, which causes the site of injury to turn red, warm up, swell, and cause pain, also known as edema. The process of inflammation starts with a change in blood flow due to the increased blood flow and dilated blood vessels in order for blood to enter the site of injury. Fluid, protein, and white blood cells then enter the damaged tissues, subsequently causing swelling. Phagocytes then reduce swelling and cellular debris caused by the injury.

  1. Choose one type of Immunity (Innate and Humoral) and explain how its mechanism protects our body.

The innate response is the line of defense that we are born with, as well as the body’s first part to detect invaders and sense trauma. Once these are detected, the innate immune system activates cells to eradicate outsider cells and initiate repair, while also informing the adaptive immune response. Additionally, innate immunity has barriers that prohibit harmful materials from entering our bodies.
