Based on your readings, how do you think developments in genomics would influence the further development of genetic counseling?
- The developments in genomics would greatly affect how genetic counselors will deliver counseling sessions as genomic testing have a wider coverage. This will change the scope, approach and process of delivering counseling sessions as mentioned in the article as not only on discussing hereditary disorders but also traits and risks of developing other types of diseases.
In which areas would be most impacted and how genetic counselors can adapt to these impacts?
- With the increasing developments in such testing, genetic counselors must adapt to this changes or impacts in way that can still deliver counseling effectively as I think it will be most affected with these growth in genomic medicine. These adaptive measures can include further trainings, seminars on updates of genetic disorders, research involvement and workshops on therapeutic communication. I believe that these will increase, not only the knowledge and skills of genetic counselors but also their confidence in delivering such.
