1. Platysma
Origin: Fascia over the deltoid and pectoralis major muscles.
Insertion: Mandible (blends with muscles around the angle of the mouth and skin of the lower face)
Action: Draws the outer part of the lower lip inferiorly and posteriorly (like pouting) and depresses the mandible.
2. Mentalis
Origin: Mandible
Insertion: Skin of chin
Action: Elevates and protrudes lower lip and pulls the skin of chin up
3. Orbicularis Oris
Origin: Medial aspects of maxilla and mandible, perioral skin and muscles, modiolus
Insertion: Skin and mucous membrane of lips
Action: Closes mouth, compresses and protrudes lips
4. Corrugator supercilii
Origin: Medial end of superciliary arch of the frontal bone
Insertion: Skin of eyebrow
Action: Draws eyebrow inferiorly and wrinkles skin of the forehead vertically as in frowning
5. Orbicularis oculi
Origin: Medial wall of the orbit.
Insertion: Circular path around the orbit.
Action: Closes the eyes.
6. Occipitofrontalis (Frontal Belly)
Origin: Frontal belly - skin of eyebrow, muscles of forehead; Occipital belly - lateral ⅔ of superior nuchal line
Intervention: Skin superior to supraorbital margin.
Action: Frontal belly: elevates eyebrows, wrinkles skin of forehead; Occipital belly: retracts scalp
