    3. Orbicularis oris - pursing or puckering the lips

    4. Buccinator - maintains the tightness of the cheeks and presses them against the teeth during chewing

    5. Platysma muscle - contribute to producing a myriad of facial expressions

  2. Mechanism

    1. There is an inflammatory process of the facial nerve leading to its compression along this narrow segment of the fallopian canal. This inflammation initially causes a temporary loss of sensory or motor function, but can lead to permanent nerve degeneration later.

  3. Other symptoms

    1. Drooling

    2. Pain around the affected area

    3. Increased sensitivity to the affected area

    4. Headache

    5. Loss of taste
