  1. The site of injection is in the anterolateral thigh where vastus lateralis muscle is targeted because of its large muscle mass and the lack of major nerves and blood vessels. Its origin are greater trochanter, intertrochanteric line, and linea aspera; insertion are patella and tibial tuberosity; and its action is tibia extension. It can be located by finding its origin and finding the top and bottom border by placing a hand below the groin and above the knee respectively.

  2. In this case, the preferred site for IM injection is the deltoid muscle of the arm. Its origin are trapezius, clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula; insertion is deltoid tuberosity of humerus; and its action are humerus flexion, extension, and medial and lateral rotation. It can be located by finding the acromion process and the tip of the deltoid muscle which is located about the level of the armpit.
