ISOTONIC CONTRACTIONS - generate force by changing muscle length; can be eccentric or concentric. Some muscles that exhibited this contraction include:

  • Gluteus maximus (concentric)
  • Adductor magnus (concentric)
  • Triceps brachii (eccentric)
  • Rectus formalis (eccentric)
  • Trapezius (concentric)

ISOMETRIC CONTRACTIONS - generates force wherein the muscle’s length does not change or remains the same.

  • Rectus abdominis
  • Biceps brachii
  • Deltoids
  • External obliques
  • Gastrocnemius
