1. Platysma
Origin: the skin and fascia of the infraclavicular and supracalivicular regions

Insertion: the base of the mandible, skin of the cheek and lower lip, angle of the mouth, and the orbicularis oris muscle

Action: draws the corners of the mouth downwards, tenses the skin of the neck, depresses the lower jaw

2. Mentalis
Origin: the anterior aspect of the mandible

Insertion: underneath skin of chin

Action: elevates and protrudes lower lip and skin of the chin

3. Orbicularis oris
Origin: the maxillia and other muscles of the cheek

Insertion: into the skin and mucous membranes of the lips

Action: purses the lips

4. Corrugator supercilii
Origin: the superciliary arch, running in a superolateral direction

Insertion: into the skin of the eyebrow

Action: draw eyebrows together, creating vertical wrinkles on the bridge of the nose

5. Orbicularis oculi
Origin: the medial orbital margin, the medial palpebral ligament, and the lacrimal bone

Insertion: into the skin around the margin of the orbit, and the superior and inferior tarsal plates

Action: closes the eyelids (palpebral part), drainage of tears (lacrimal part), and tightly closes the eyelids (orbital part)

6. Occipitofrontalis (frontal belly of epicranius)
Origin: the epicranial aponeurosis

Insertion: into the fascia of the facial muscles

Action: raises the eyebrows and wrinkles the forehead
