1. The PCV and Pentavalent vaccines are given to infants below 12 months via the intramuscular route to the anterolateral midthigh, and the vastus lateralis is the particular muscle targeted. The muscle can be located below the greater trochanter of the femur but in the junction of the upper and middle thirds of the muscle. Its origin is at the greater trochanter and linea aspera of the femur and the insertion is at the patella via the quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament. Its action is to extend the leg at the knee joint.

2. The flu vaccine can be given to the grandfather at the shoulder in the deltoid muscle which can be located below the acromion process. The injection site is in the middle of the deltoid. The deltoid muscle originates at the acromial extremity of the clavicle, acromion of the scapula, and spine of the scapula. Its insertion is at the deltoid tuberosity of the humerus. The actions of the deltoid are the abduction of the arm at the shoulder joint, flexion and medial rotation of the arm at the shoulder joint, and extension and lateral rotation of the arm at the shoulder joint.
