1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.

Somatic cell division, also referred to as mitosis, is the division of a single cell into identical cells. It makes up most of the body tissues and is essential for the growth and repair of the body. Reproductive cell division or meiosis reduces the number of chromosomes in gametes. It is a type of cell division in sexually producing organisms. It ensures the organism's capability to reproduce.

2. What is the significance of interphase?

Cell spends most of its lifetime in the interphase or the metabolic phase of the cell. This phase allows cells to conduct their function and obtain nutrients. The cell also grows, replicates its chromosomes, and prepares for cell division.
