  • The idea that I have thought of in the prior discussion with regard to the integumentary system is about albinism, which is one of the genetic disorders that affects the appearance of the skin. Albinism causes a person's skin to have very little or no pigmentation, in addition to causing them to have poor eyesight. When this subject was brought up, I was reminded of a documentary that I had previously seen. The main focus of the film was on how people in the medieval era viewed albinism as a form of witchcraft and sorcery that needed to be eradicated as quickly as possible from society. This practice is now considered a violation of human rights in the modern era. Because of these new insights, I was brought back to the fact that there were a great number of maladies and diseases that, rather than immediately resorting to discrimination and killings, could have been given the opportunity to be researched and explained. As a person who studies in the field of science, I will always implement this by bearing in mind that I will encounter many individuals in worse conditions, and rather than perpetuating prejudice and stereotypes, I will always take the initiative for education and awareness.
