Choose one concept in our lesson today, give a brief explanation about the concept and cite how this learning can be applied in your daily life.

- While reading through the prescribed learning materials, I came across one of the functions of the integumentary system which is “thermoregulation” and was fascinated about how it saves lives. Maintaining the ideal bodily temperature is essential for the organ systems to carry out its functions properly. Changes in temperature either internally or externally is detected by the integumentary system which correspond to sweat production and blood vessel dilation or contraction which help the body adapt to the situation. Knowing the concept of thermoregulation, I understood better why exercise is being prescribed to people who suffer from hypertension. Essentially, the promotion of blood flow involved in the cooling process during exercise helps in regaining the normal shape and improve blood flow of blood vessels among hypertensive people. With this, the risks associated with hypertension such as aneurysm, stroke, and kidney failure are significantly reduced thus saving their lives.
