Activity 2. Reflection

Choose one concept in our lesson today, give a brief explanation about the concept and cite how this learning can be applied in your daily life.

One concept that we discussed today is the function of the skeletal system. We talked about how this system provides support and stability to our bodies as well as protection to our internal organs from any kind of impact. We also learned that it is responsible for the production of red blood cells which is necessary so that oxygen will be transported to all parts of the body.

When we were young, perhaps most of us have been told by our parents or grandparents to always drink milk so that we will get tall. I remember myself scowling most of the time since I had to finish at least one glass of it despite not wanting to drink it. However, as I grew up I realized that those reminders given by my parents were really important because they made my body what it is today. Milk contains calcium that strengthens our bones and because of it, it helped my bones become stronger and it contributed to the increase in my height. Because my parents took care of my bones when I was young, I am currently able to do physical activities without feeling any pain from any of my bones. I can freely dance and play sports since my bones are strong enough to withstand any impact. If I was stubborn before and did not drink milk as much as I did, I would have probably had weaker bones which may become brittle as I grow up. This is the reason why the importance of this concept should be instilled in our minds because it affects everything that we do in our everyday lives. Simply drinking milk or consuming foods that are rich in calcium is already enough to keep our bones healthy and strong. This may even prevent the occurrence of diseases such as osteoporosis which is affecting most people with weak bones. This serves as a reminder that being conscious of what we do would ultimately prevent our bodies from any form of degradation.
