Discuss the six basic life processes and your own example for each.

  • Metabolism
    • This refers to the chemical reactions in the body that converts food into energy
    • Example: Catabolism (breakdown of molecules to get energy) & Anabolism (synthesis of compounds for the cells)
  • Responsiveness
    • It is the body's ability to adjust to different changes
    • Example: External (or internal) stimuli to do basic tasks (e.g. Eating/Drinking when hungry)
  • Movement
    • This refers to the gestures your whole body makes
    • Example: Blood flow
  • Growth
    • The way the body increases in the size of the cells or its quantity
    • Increase in height/weight of a child
  • Differentiation
    • It is the process in which the cell changes to become specialized
    • Example: Stem cells specializing to become blood cells
  • Reproduction
    • This is the development of new cells in terms of the growth of tissue, restoration, or renewal, or new individual organisms are formed
    • Example: Cell Division
