Give other examples of disturbances in the internal environment that can act as a stimulus to a feedback mechanism.

An example of a stimulus that can trigger negative feedback is thermoregulation. An increase in body heat can be a signal for blood vessels to dilate so that there can be less pressure so that body temperature can go back to normal. Conversely, blood vessels can also constrict when there is a drop in body temperature so that equilibrium is maintained.

Positive feedback is also commonly demonstrated with lactation. Here, when an infant suckles on a breast, there is a consequent production of prolactin, which entails milk production. The more the infant suckles, the more prolactin there will be, and the more lactation will happen.
