ACTIVITY 3

(Genes)

When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does “gene expression” mean in relation to protein synthesis?

Transcription and translation are the two processes that occur when a gene expresses itself. Additionally, these processes create different genetic variations, which allow for the production of different proteins according to their specific functionalities. And this is because the instructions for protein synthesis are found within these genes. Given this, gene expression and protein synthesis are frequently seen as one process.
