CAVITIES

Can you identify the organs that are in the following cavities?

a. THORACIC CAVITY

– Respiratory system: lungs, tracheobronchial tree (bronchi & trachea)
– Cardiovascular system: heart, pericardium, blood vessels
– Lymphatic system: thymus
– Digestive system: esophagus 

b. CRANIAL CAVITY

– brain

c. ABDOMINAL CAVITY

– stomach, spleen, liver, gallbladder, kidneys, small intestine (jejunum and ileum), (most of) large intestine (colon), adrenal glands

d. PELVIC CAVITY

– urinary bladder, ureters, urethra, (a portion of) large intestine (pelvic colon), rectum
– For females: uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries
– For males: ductus deferens or vas deferens, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts, prostate

e. MEDIASTINUM

– Respiratory system: trachea
– Cardiovascular system: heart, blood vessels
– Lymphatic system: thymus
– Digestive system: esophagus
