1. Distinguish between somatic and reproductive cell division and explain the importance of each.

The main difference between somatic and reproductive cell division is that somatic cell division starts with a diploid parent cell and ends with 2 diploid daughter cells, and reproductive cell division starts with a diploid parent cell and ends with 4 haploid cells. Somatic cell division is important for replacing damaged cells caused by wounds and body growth. On the other hand, somatic cell division is important for creating sex cells with variations in genes which can help in giving offspring diverse features.

2. What is the significance of interphase?

nterphase is important for cell growth, DNA replication, and preparation of the cell for mitosis or meiosis. Essentially, without interphase, the cell won’t be able to proceed with the process of mitosis and meiosis.
