What is the importance of studying organs or the body at different planes and sections?

  • Human anatomy and physiology can be explained straightforwardly and consistently using specific anatomical positions. Many anatomical terminologies describe the relative positioning of different appendages or organs concerning the standardized position while analyzing an individual's anatomy. Such terms include proximal and distal, which define how close or far something is, respectively, or posterior and dorsal, which refer to the body's rear. The standard anatomical position establishes distinct points of comparison that reduce ambiguity when using anatomical terminologies. When an anomaly is present in a person's body, this is also utilized to precisely and accurately pinpoint the damaged or affected location.
