ACTIVITY 3: GENES

When we say a gene is expressing itself, what does "gene expression" mean in relation to protein synthesis?

Gene expression refers to the transformation of the information coded in a gene to a final gene product. It dictates the structure and function of a cell by determining which proteins should be made. Genes are expressed in order to provide the genetic information that is necessary for the synthesis of protein.
