Gene expression results in protein synthesis, since it is the process wherein information from a gene (aka DNA) is used in order to produce some sort of product (protein). Gene expression happens in two stages called transcription and translation. In transcription, DNA is transformed into RNA. For eukaryotes, further processing happens in order for RNA to be turned into mRNA, a sort of "messenger" carrying a encoded message in the form of a nucleotide sequence. In translation, this sequence is translated to specify the sequence of amino acids, which will then be used in the formation of protein. Thus, gene expression forms protein.
